The youth advocates brought creative placards, which read, “people’s court of last resort, GMA’s first line of defense” and “Supreme Court 10, Resign.” The protest coincided with a forum at the UP Film Center organized by the high court teaching people how to have “greater access to the justice.”

“To vote against the constitutionality of a commission that aims to investigate the Arroyo regime prevents us from holding accountable the most corrupt president in recent memory. The decision of the ten justices nit only sullies the reputation  of the judiciary but also disregards the will of a people who overwhelmingly voted for the truth and accountability last election”, lamented by Leloy Claudio, Akbayan Youth ‘s newly elected National Chairperson.

Akbayan Youth condemned what it views as a consistent trend on the part of the high court to serve as GMA’s “first line of defense.”

“This is not the first step the court has taken to protect GMA and her criminal cohort”, Claudio added. “This same court apparently gave credence to GMA’s midnight appointees and blocked the impeachment of Ombudsman Merciditas Gutierrez – an established Arroyo ally.”

The group also said the high court is a very bad role model for the young people. “From absolving a colleague over an obvious case of plagiarism to their outright defense of Gloria, the Supreme Court is apparently telling us that crime does pay.”

“This new decision saddens us, but it doesn’t surprise us. We look forward to seeing ten resignation letters on PNoy’s desk.” Concluded Claudio.
